Why Should You Care About Social Media And Your Online Business
I know how you feel, you have been working your business for the last twenty years and it has been successful. You have your offline and online advertising and you get leads. You don’t need Social Media to market your network marketing business, right? Wrong! Social Media is not just MySpace and Facebook that your children are using to (as you would call it) waste time with their friends. It is an online community that shares ideas, information, and opinions about lots of things. Let me share with you some information I got from http://socialnomics.net about Social Media and our world.
- By the Year 2010 “Generation Y” will outnumber baby boomers and 96% of them have joined a social network.
- Social Media has overtaken porn as the number 1 activity on the web.
- 1 out of 8 couples married in the US last year met using Social Media
- Lets compare the number of years it took a particular technology to reach 50 million users:
-
Radio 38 years
-
TV 13 years
-
Internet 4 years
-
iPod 3 years
-
Facebook - 100 million users in 9 months
- Ashton Kutcher and Ellen Degeneres have more twitter followers that the entire population of Ireland, Norway & Panama.
- 80% of Twitter usage is on mobile devices – people update anytime and anywhere.
- Google is the largest search engine but did you know that YouTube is the 2nd largest?
- There are over 200,000,000 blogs and 54% of bloggers post content daily.
- YouTube has reach 1 Billion views per day
- More than 1.5 million pieces of content (web links, views, stories, blog posts, notes, photos, etc..) are shared on Facebook……Daily!
That is a lot of traffic that you need to be in front of. Social Media is not just for those under the age of 30. It is a huge and growing community that is encompassing the planet. Your next customer may be in the 25 – 35 age group and they are connected to peers around the world. 78% of consumers trust peer recommendations and only 14% trust advertisements. Your Brand needs to be on the Internet and on Social Media sites.
Pick one or two types and start posting. Look at the commitment needed for each one before you begin. This is a long-term commitment you are making. You do not want to start attracting an audience and leave them after a few months because you have gotten tired of it. The keyword here is original content. You need to create new content every few days and post it and that is the hard part. You can combine types of posts to recycle your information. You can write an article to post on your blog and article directories and then make a video about it to post on your video sharing site (YouTube, MetaCafe, etc..)
Focus on delivering value to your audience. You need to give them a reason to return to your site and gain their trust. You do not do that by selling them from the very first post. You do it by showing them that you care about what they want and need. Show them that you can help them get what they want and they will be your customers. If you don’t establish trust you won’t get a thing.
It’s a brave new world and if you are a Baby Boomer you better start getting involved in it before it runs you over. Social Media is here to stay. Check out a great video of the information I presented here at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIFYPQjYhv8
